Description

This IB Geography Course has been tailored specifically for teachers and students of the IBO Standard level Geography Course. Geography is the study of people and places. The IB diploma course focuses particularly “on the interactions between individuals, societies and the physical environment in both time and space.” (Diploma Programme Geography Guide for first examinations in 2011). There is an emphasis on change and the capacity of people to adapt to socio-cultural, political and economic change. It is essential that programs of work incorporate the international dimensions of Geography as well as national and local examples. Students are expected to demonstrate competence in a variety of geographic skills including use and understanding of graphs, statistical calculations, fieldwork, research, mapping and extended writing. This publication has been designed for Standard students and includes a series of the syllabus, pacing guide, detailed daily lesson plans, editable PowerPoint class notes, complete student activity book, suggested further work and editable assessments.

Students will examine a Core Theme that covers Four compulsory topics, (Populations in Transition, Patterns in resource consumption, Disparities in wealth and development and Patterns in environmental quality and sustainability). Standard Level students complete Two further optional themes from a choice of seven (whereas Higher level Students complete three of these optional themes). Both Standard Level and Higher Level students complete a fieldwork project. In addition Higher level students study Global Interactions which covers a further seven compulsory topics. The standard Level course comprises 150 hours of teaching time whereas the Higher Level course comprises 240 hours. Please refer to the Geography Diploma IB Guide for further information.
